Columbus nursing student treated to $7M lottery prize

Friday, February 10, 2012

ATLANTA – A Columbus nursing student has come down with a case of lottery fever. Mattie Billingsley, 49, won $7 million playing the new Georgia Lottery game $7 Million Jackpot.

“I can’t stop crying,” Billingsley said. “They’re tears of joy.”

Billingsley bought two tickets that she and her husband scratched at home Thursday.

“We gave each other a really big hug,” she said. “It was just awesome.”

Billingsley claimed her prize Friday.

CITGO Food Mart, located at 314 Fifth St. in Columbus, sold the lucky ticket.

$7 Million Jackpot is an instant game with prizes up to $7 million. Players can submit non-winning game tickets into an extra chance drawing for an opportunity to win $7 million.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
